Stocks End Higher After Data, Earnings – Yahoo Finance

While the French CAC 40 Index has climbed by 0.9 percent, the German DAX Index is up WHAT STOCKS IS GOOD TO BUY by 0.6 percent and the U.K.’s FTSE Index is up by 0.2 percent. In commodities trading, crude oil futures are sliding $0.50 to $92.95 a barrel after advancing $0.59 to $93.45 a barrel on Wednesday. Gold futures, which dipped $1.50 to $1,295.20 an ounce in the previous session, are tumbling $17.40 to $1,277.80 an ounce. Among currencies, the U.S. dollar is trading at 103.75 yen compared to the 102.76 yen it fetched at the close of New York trading on Wednesday.

Earnings per share rose to $1.52 compared to $1.24 a share in the year-ago quarter and analyst expectations of $1.44 a share. Management also raised its outlook for full-year 2014 earnings. TJX (TJX) reported strong quarterly results today. Net sales increased a healthy 7%, showing that both comparable sales and new store openings are on track.

U.S. shares were poised for declines with Dow futures dipping nearly 0.1 percent to 16,870. S&P 500 futures were down 0.1 percent to 1,975.20. ASIA’S DAY: Hong Kong’s Hang Seng was up 0.2 percent at 25,177.28 while Japan’s Nikkei 225 was little changed at 15,454.45. Australia’s S&P/ASX 200 added 0.2 percent at 5,634.60 while Southeast Asian markets advanced.
