Obama’s Day: Congress And The Olympics

"The long Obamacare winter is finally over"? Because a man who has told lie after lie about this law claimed that he had not only reached, but surpassed, his projected goal? Are the Oliphants suddenly oblivious to revelations made since, such as a RAND Corporation study that reveals that barely 858,000 previously uninsured Americans have paid for new policies?" When Obama glibly and haughtily boasts "There are still no death panels , Armageddon has not arrived," it's likely that he himself recognizes the foolhardiness of that claim. If death panels are going to become a reality and there's as much reason as ever to assume that they might they wouldn't materialize this early in the process. The law officially became a reality for all Americans six months ago, when the first enrollment period began.
Source: <a href='http://www.examiner.com/article/obama-is-still-gazing-into-the-mouth-of-hell' >http://www.examiner.com/article/obama-is-still-gazing-into-the-mouth-of-hell</a>

Pressure intensifies on Obama over deportations

But the announcement glossed over key practical issues in implementing the new procedures. The potential gap in records for flat-rate subscribers, as well as the telecommunications companies' strong opposition to onerous data retention requirements, underscores the still-fluid nature of the NSA reforms. "We applaud these proposals to end Section 215 bulk collection, but feel that it is critical to get the details of this important effort right," Verizon Communications Inc General Counsel Randal Milch said in a blog post last week, referring to Section 215 of the Patriot Act, the law that authorized the NSA program. "At this early point in the process, we propose this basic principle that should guide the effort: the reformed collection process should not require companies to store data for longer than, or in formats that differ from, what they already do for business purposes," Milch wrote. Obama's proposal, whose full details have yet to be formally released, is a response to public outcry over revelations by former NSA contractor Edward Snowden about the spy agency's bulk collection of phone records. A senior Obama administration official said: "As questions arise with respect to the proposal, we look forward to working through them with Congress and relevant stakeholders." citizens such as spouses, children, and parents from deportation, claiming family unity is a significant public benefit. These steps do not constitute unilaterally legalizing anyone, but judging by the Obama administrations public statements, officialsmay notbelievehe has the legal right to take them. Some experts have said he has more legal leeway than the administration has admitted , though the legal debate remains convoluted . Beyond the legal aspects of this, what the new memo again shows is that the chances for legislative action on immigration are slipping away fast. If August recess comes without any action from House Republicans,Obama will come under trulywithering pressure to act, not just from advocates but from Democratic lawmakers. He very well may do something to deprioritize and/or delay deportation for at least some more of the 11 million.
Source: <a href='http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2014/04/04/pressure-intensifies-on-obama-over-deportations/' >http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/plum-line/wp/2014/04/04/pressure-intensifies-on-obama-over-deportations/</a>
